đ Exploring the Enchanting Streets of Old Dhaka – A Journey Back in Time
Published by: Shuvo Chakma
There’s something magical about walking through a city that feels like it’s frozen in time — and that’s exactly what Old Dhaka offers. From its narrow alleyways to its centuries-old architecture, the old part of Bangladesh’s capital is a destination that surprises and captivates.
đ A Rich Tapestry of History and Culture
Old Dhaka isn’t just a place — it’s an experience. As soon as you step into the streets of areas like Shankhari Bazar or Lalbagh, you’re immediately surrounded by history. The buildings whisper stories of Mughal emperors, colonial rule, and generations of vibrant life.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Lalbagh Fort, an incomplete Mughal fort dating back to the 17th century. Despite its unfinished state, it’s rich in beauty and mystery. The lush gardens and majestic architecture make it a perfect spot for history buffs and photographers alike.
đ Food Heaven on Earth
If you’re a foodie, Old Dhaka is paradise. From the world-famous Biriyani at Haji Biriyani to street-side snacks like fuchka, jilapi, and kebabs — every corner is a culinary adventure. Don’t forget to try the traditional drinks like borhani!
Pro tip: come hungry. You’ll want to try everything.
đļ Local Life and Vibrant Streets
One of my favorite things to do in Old Dhaka was simply walking. The chaos, colors, and charisma of the place are unforgettable. Rickshaws jostle for space, vendors shout their prices, and children play cricket in the alleys. It’s a perfect place to slow down and take it all in.
đ¸ Final Thoughts
Old Dhaka may not have the skyscrapers or luxury malls of modern cities, but it offers something far more valuable — authenticity. If you ever find yourself in Bangladesh, don’t miss the chance to explore this living, breathing museum of culture and history.Behance
